There’s a lot going on these days just under the surface…
They say the life we live isn’t sustainable. They say that within the next ten to fifteen years important things like certain foods, water, and energy will simply start running out.
Whatever you believe, one thing is for sure…
We as a species must start to change our ways unless we march inexorably toward the end of life as we know it to be.
So how can we live a more sustainable life and give back to mother nature just a little bit?
2 ways to emphasize sustainability in your day to day life starting right now
- Turn off the lights during the day and open up the windows. This may seem like an obvious one to most of us, but sometimes you might leave that light on without really paying any heed to it.
This also goes for air condition and heating. If it’s reasonably cool outside, you could open a couple of windows to let a little breeze come through the house. In South America, families live their entire lives without the comforts of air condition and they don’t seem to mind at all.
2. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth, and take shorter showers. You can even take it a step further and use a cup of water to rinse your brush in instead of rinsing it under the faucet.
Also, while hand washing dishes you can turn off the faucet until you’re ready to rinse everything at once. That means you would leave off the faucet while doing the actual scrubbing and only turn on the water at the very end while you rinsed all the silverware and plates as one whole.
It may seem a little strange at once, but it really makes a big difference at the end of the day.
